For the first time in program history, the Christopher Newport women’s field hockey team have earned the No. 1 spot in this week’s National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll.

The NFHCA week three poll was published earlier this week. It is a composite vote of how Division III college field hockey coaches rank the top 10 teams based upon overall record and schedule.

The Captains are 9-0 on the season and most recently defeated than No. 10 ranked Stevens 2-1 in New Jersey.

Despite the only loss on Steven’s schedule, they only moved down on spot on this week’s list.

Reaching a program milestone, Endicott now ranks No. 12, the highest national ranking over. Endicott beat Middlebury field hockey 2-1 in overtime on Sunday.

The last time Middlebury lost a game was against Tufts on Oct. 19, 2024.

Katharine DeLorenzo, Middlebury’s head coach, also celebrated her 400th career win last week against Connecticut College with a 2-1 victory. DeLorenzo is one of only 10 Division III head field hockey coaches to achieve 400 or more wins at a single institution.

Bates continue to impress moving up from No. 7 to 5 in the latest poll.

The Bobcats are off to their best start since 1973 and are coming off a quarterfinal appearance in last year’s NCAA Division III tournament.

Johns Hopkins handed Dickinson their first loss of the season with a 3-0 shutout.

Hamilton College’s Becky Felker scored a hat trick against William Smith, helping the Continentals defeat the Herons for the sixth time in their last seven meetings.

According to the NFHCA, the poll is voted on by designated NFHCA member coaches from each conference and has no bearing on selection to the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship.

Bolded teams have moved ranks higher or lower from week to week.
