Duke women’s basketball to watch as Selection Sunday nears
Though known as a men’s basketball dynasty, Duke’s women are winning underdog fans nationwide.
Every game now matters for teams fighting for a bracket spot.
ACC fans were on edge Sunday as Duke faced ranked rival North Carolina. Duke pulled away in a nail-biter, preserving their undefeated 15-0 conference record. Louisville is immediately behind them with 14-1 record, and North Carolina is in third at 11-4.
Despite Duke’s No. 1 ACC standing, the team is an underdog to watch in the overall NCAA Division I tournament. Sophomore guard Toby Fournier leads with 17 plus points-per-game.
The Canadian forward shoots over 50 percent and, with senior guard Taina Mair averaging five plus assists, the Blue Devils are offensive powerhouses.
The SEC also made headlines with Top-10 rivals South Carolina vs. LSU.
The Gamecocks came out on top 79-72, but the Tigers showed that they were ready to take the court against some of the most dominant teams in basketball.
The top 10 have been steady for weeks, and fans are eager for a March shake-up.
BIG10 action Sunday: Michigan visits Iowa City as the Hawkeyes chase a comeback season.
With two regular-season weeks left, underdogs must strike and top teams sharpen their edge.
