With the constant changes in college sports, prospective student-athletes likely have many questions about navigating the recruiting process.

The LineUP, a female-led family business, recently hosted its annual field hockey ID clinic at The Proving Grounds in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. Their second annual ID clinic will be held on July 19 at Fore Kicks III Indoor and Outdoor Sports Complex in Taunton, Massachusetts.

This clinic offers athletes a fantastic opportunity to gain exposure to college field hockey coaches, learn more about the recruiting process, connect with new friends, and enjoy playing the game alongside athletes from across the country.

Female Athlete News recently partnered with The LineUP, and as part of this series, FAN interviewed seven Division I coaches.

This interview was sponsored by TheLineUP.

College: University of Richmond

Richmond Head Coach: Martu Loncarica

Division: I

Conference: Atlantic 10 (A-10)

2024 Record: 11-8 overall, 5-2 conference

2024 Notable: This will be the second season that Loncarica has been at the helm for the Spiders. She was named the 2023 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Coach of the Year, when she was leading LaSalle Field Hockey.

“I have a big vision for (Richmond field hockey),” Loncarica said. “I want us to eventually break into the top 20 and hopefully we can do that sooner rather than later. We managed to go from 66 to 35. So hopefully the next jump will be to make it in the top 20, compete for a championship, and make it into the NCAA tournament, but overall the vision is, on the style of play and to be better every day. Go after it and be very, very intense and very competitive while having fun.”

What do you like about attending The LineUp:

The opportunity allows her to clarify Richmond's expectations and encourage open communication and consistent feedback with players interested in higher playing opportunities.

As Loncarica mentioned, she believes that when her team feels involved in the program, their commitment increases significantly. This approach fosters a stronger buy-in than if the vision isn't clearly communicated or explained.

If there's a lack of alignment or disinterest in being part of the vision, then individuals will have all the information they need to make an informed decision.
