With the constant changes in college sports, prospective student-athletes likely have many questions about navigating the recruiting process.

The LineUP, a female-led family business, recently hosted its annual field hockey ID clinic at The Proving Grounds in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania. Their second annual ID clinic will be held on July 19 at Fore Kicks III Indoor and Outdoor Sports Complex in Taunton, Massachusetts.

This clinic offers athletes a fantastic opportunity to gain exposure to college field hockey coaches, learn more about the recruiting process, connect with new friends, and enjoy playing the game alongside athletes from across the country.

Female Athlete News recently partnered with The LineUP, and as part of this series, FAN interviewed seven Division I coaches.

This interview was sponsored by The LineUP.

College: University of Virginia

Associate Head Coach: Carrera Lucas

Division: I

Conference: Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC)

2024 Record: 14-5 overall, 6-2 conference

2024 Notable: The Cavaliers lost in overtime to the 2024 NCAA Division I National Champions, Northwestern, in a tightly contested Big10 vs. ACC battle. Northwestern's squad ousted Virginia in the quarterfinals on its way to the 2024 title.

Head coach Ole Keusgen said, “A season-ending loss is always tough. But I think if you end the season or even your career, this is how you want to end it. We left literally everything we had on the field. The grind we presented and our commitment to each other today was just unbelievable. So we did everything right and just lost against a fantastic team. So we have no regrets. I thought we played a fantastic game, but at the end of the day, it wasn’t enough.”

What do you like about attending The LineUp:

Lucas shared that a lot of hockey is packed into one day, providing athletes an excellent opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with coaches. She also mentioned that chalk talks are a great way to learn about an athlete, particularly by observing who asks strategic questions and demonstrates an understanding of different concepts.

Coachability is a significant factor for Virginia hockey when recruiting athletes. Good energy, humor, and competitiveness are central to the Cavaliers program.
