Louisville, James Madison, and Wake Forest shake things up in week three DI poll: NFHCA
Three teams recorded major upsets over the weekend, boosting their positions in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I weekly poll.
The NFHCA released its week three rankings Tuesday, highlighting several notable movements.
The No. 16 Louisville Cardinals saw the biggest jump after two focused wins against higher-ranked teams. The Cards defeated Ohio State University, which was ranked No. 14 at the time, but have since fallen out of the rankings.
Louisville also shut out 2024 NCAA runner-up Saint Joseph’s 2-0. SJU remains at No. 15. Tyler Everslage helped secure that win with an insurance goal assisted by Lauren Masters.
Wake Forest climbed seven spots to No. 13 from No. 20. The Demon Deacons beat then-No. 4 Syracuse in overtime, with Lauren Storey scoring the game-winning goal.
Syracuse has fallen to No. 6. Wake also won versus Boston College, who are no longer in the rankings.
James Madison earned a 3-1 victory over No. 12 Michigan, who was previously ranked No. 8, which marks another significant upset. Madelief Molier scored a hatrick for the Dukes and goalie Molly Schreiner had a career high of 12 saves on the day.
Monmouth rose four spots No. 14, securing its first win over Rutgers since 2014 with a 4-2 score.
Penn State dropped four spots to No. 20 after a loss to Maryland, where Terps freshman Feliz Kuhne scored her first career goal.
No. 4 Harvard is off to an historic start, posting a 6-0 record for the first time since 1976.
The top three remain unchanged: Northwestern, North Carolina, and Virginia. UNC’s Ryleigh Heck tied the program’s single-game record with five goals in an 8-1 victory over Stanford.
