Southern field hockey clubs break gold medal game tradition at NCCs in 2025: field hockey
The WC Eagles dominance at the National Club Championships has been well established across age divisions, but last year’s tournament also pointed to a broader geographic shift in the youth field hockey landscape.
For the first time, each club facing WC Eagles in a championship game was based south of the Mason-Dixon line. In previous years, gold-medal contenders came from the Northeast or Mid-Atlantic.
A few times NCCs saw a Midwest club, but mostly the same group continued to take part in the championship game.
IFHCK, Texas Pride, and Bull City represented Kentucky, Texas, and North Carolina, respectively, as they challenged WC Eagles in the 2025 finals.
IFHCK, the international field hockey club of Kentucky, were the closest to unseating WC Eagles in a 2-1 loss.
According to USA Field Hockey’s medal records for the National Club Championships, WC Eagles have won 39 medals, the most of any club listed.
This year’s National Club Championships are underway at the USA Field Hockey National Training Center in Virginia Beach. The U-14 division opens the event, followed by U-16 and U-19 competition.
The tournament did not take place in 2020. Here is a partial list of the top medalists.
