Susquenita, Palmyra, and Emmaus win 2025 PIAA field hockey championships

The Pennsylvania high school field hockey state tournament was held at Chapman Field on the campus of Cumberland Valley High School.

The 2025 Pennsylvania high school field hockey season has come to an end with three teams adorned with gold.

Class 1A

The Susquenita Blackhawks earned their first gold medal in the program’s history.

When asked, “what does this mean for Susquenita,” head coach Jason Brouse was speechless.

He went on to say that his team has competed against some of the best college field hockey athletes in the country naming names like West Perry’s Jordan Byers (Iowa) and Greenwood’s Paityn Wirth (North Carolina).

He said because of their examples, leadership, and abilities, they, and his coaching staff, helped raise the standard of field hockey in Perry County.

It’s very similar to the proud vibes that their competitors, Boiling Springs field hockey, felt in 2022, when the Bubblers won their first gold medal. It’s a sense of pride in a small community that they can be seen, too.

The tension between the Blackhawks and Bubblers in the Class 1A game on Saturday could be felt from the first whistle, when an aerial was thrown into the Blackhawks 25, where it was picked up, passed, received near stroke, and pushed into the cage.

That goal was clutch for the athletes mentally, according to the team’s captains.

The Blackhawks had rising national rock star Kendall Longenberger marked throughout the entire game. Longenberger was able to break double teams, but the minute she was set free, another Blackhawk instantly tried to steer her path.

Longenberger was still able to rip several reverse shots, but couldn’t nail the corners and the posts were protected at all times.

The final score was 2-0 Susquenita.

Class 2A

It almost seemed like Palmyra and Warwick were having too much fun on the field. The game was extremely competitive.

The Warriors bounced back from having lost 5-0 to the Cougars in the 2025 District 3 Class 2A Championship. They rallied back to a 3-2 loss, nearly knotting up the game with 28 seconds remaining.

Warwick sent a low shot toward far post, but the Cougar’s senior keeper anticipated the angle and caught the ball in her left kicker. She was agile enough to clear the ball as the seconds ticked down on the clock.

Palmyra won their fourth gold medal in program history.

Class 3A

The pace of the Emmaus versus Central Bucks West field hockey finale was fast.

Threats were looming on both sides, but it was the Bucks who smashed the cage first.

West seemed like they surprised themselves, as the Green Hornets are often an unbreakable force to compete against having won 37 consecutive District 11 titles, and 15 state titles.

Emmaus won gold most recently in the 2023 Class 3A state tournament defeating Manheim Township 1-0.

Head coach Sue Butz-Stavins, who earned her 1,100th win this season, said after the game, “that wasn’t our best game. We aren’t happy about those two goals, but it was fun.”
