Transfer portal in women's college softball: where top players transferred

Texas Tech gained Mia Williams, Jasmyn Burns, and Desirae Spearman.

The evolution of the transfer portal has changed college sports.

Softball is no different, and many significant moves strengthened some of the top clubs.

Texas Tech, the runner-up in the Women’s College World Series (WCWS), was ranked as having the best transfer portal successes in college softball, according to Softball America.

Leading the way for the Red Raiders’ transfer class is Jasmyn Burns from Ohio State. Last season, Burns hit .455 with a 1.546 OPS for the Buckeyes. This impressive display also included hitting 25 home runs, 14 more than her 2024 campaign.

Desirae Spearman is a very interesting transfer acquisition as she is a two-way player.

Spearman had a 1.583 OPS and 20 homers for New Mexico State in 2025. She also had 114.2 innings pitched with 118 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.54.

Mia Williams transferred from the Florida Gators after a 2025 season where she hit .335 with a 1.144 OPS. Like Burns, she dramatically increased her home run total from six in 2024 to 19 in 2025.

With Texas Tech loading up on talent — all three now wear a Red Raiders uniform — after just falling short, their competition in the SEC also secured some great players in an attempt to stay competitive at the highest level.

The defending champion, Texas Longhorns, added fourth-year Kaiah Altmeyer to bolster their roster. Altmeyer, a transfer from Arizona, has been consistently getting better each year of her career.

In 2025, she hit .365 with an OPS of 1.047. She also had a career high of 25 extra-base hits and 52 RBIs.

Georgia, which was ranked as having the the third best transfer class, added two of the premier pitchers in the portal.

Addisen Fisher had a 2.83 ERA over 113.2 innings with UCLA last season. Maddie Johnson transfers from Georgia Southern, where she had an excellent year with a 2.03 ERA and 110s over 145 innings.

Keristin Roose had a breakout fourth year for Coastal Carolina, where she hit .368, had an OPS of 1.172, and had a career high of 15 homers.

Alabama added Brooke Wells after an extraordinary rookie season for Houston. Wells hit .341 with an OPS of 1.123, along with 19 extra-base hits. Alabama is looking to keep pace in an extremely competitive SEC.
