Vanderbilt’s rebound after losing an undefeated season is stronger than before: basketball
Vanderbilt was coming in hot to start the women’s college basketball season earning national recognition for their undefeated season.
The Commodores seemingly lost their momentum when South Carolina stole it in a major upset forcing them out of flashy headlines. Vanderbilt is once again starting to show its shine after brushing off the dust.
Vanderbilt then lost to No. 17 Ole Miss 75-83.
The losses only proved to strengthen the team’s resolve throughout the past two weeks. They are now 24-2 and most recently defeated No. 4 ranked Texas 86-70, and wins registered against Kentucky and Oklahoma.
The Longhorns have been dominant throughout the season, consistently ranking in the top 10 every week.
But, following Vanderbilt’s win, expect to see the Commodores earn some more love in the rankings. The bump, possibly up to No. 5, could move up with LSU taking Texas’s spot and Michigan dropping into the No. 7 spot.
Baylor, one of the most historic basketball dynasties in recent years, was making a comeback and moving up the rankings, but Thursday night brought them disappointment.
The Bears haven’t yet reached the top 25, but they were looking to be ranked decently for the tournament.
TCU, another strong team early in the season that had fallen off the radar, brought their name back into the tournament conversation with a 16-point win over Baylor.
Though this wasn’t a top 25 ranked win, it could launch the Horned Frogs into the top 10 from where they are at No. 11 now.
The top 10 will look completely different going into updated upcoming rankings, and it will be interesting to see what teams will make their presence known.
