Gold on the line: Greenwood gets another shot at Boiling Springs

One trophy. Two familiar foes.

Boiling Springs and Greenwood square off for Pennsylvania’s District 3 Class A field hockey championship Saturday, November 7, at 11 a.m. in Mechanicsburg at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Stadium.

For the defending district champion — the Bubblers — it’s a chance to keep the gold. For the Wildcats, it’s a chance to flip the script against a team that spoiled both a regular-season meeting and last year’s state-tournament run.

Top-seeded Boiling Springs punched its ticket with a nail-biting 1–0 semifinal win over Susquenita on Wednesday. Greenwood powered past Littlestown 4–1 after dispatching Oley Valley 3–1 in the quarterfinals.

Now comes the familiar opponent — and the biggest district prize.

Keep an eye on Greenwood junior Abbie Roush. The all-state forward hit 200 career points in an October 12 victory over Lewisburg, delivering three goals and an assist.

She isn’t carrying the attack alone. Molly Guarente and Gabi Gantt also joined the 100-career-point club this season, giving the Wildcats more than one way to make a defense sweat.

Boiling Springs knows a thing or two about delivering when the stakes rise.

In last year’s district semifinal against Susquenita, Kendall Longenberger disrupted penalty corners with her defensive rushing, while goalkeeper Olivia Wickard helped the Bubblers weather a shootout.

The payoff? A 2–1 overtime victory over Oley Valley and a district championship.

The recent head-to-head ledger belongs to Boiling Springs. The Bubblers beat Greenwood 3–1 on October 8 this season and blanked the Wildcats 3–0 in the November 11, 2025, PIAA Class A semifinal.

But history won’t score Saturday’s goals.

Greenwood gets another shot at changing the ending; Boiling Springs gets another shot at lifting the trophy.
