Middlebury stuns No. 1 CNU in statement weekend: DIII field hockey
Last week’s NCAA Division III field hockey games saw goals from Gracyn Catalano, Addie Chandler, and Devon Gregory.
The No. 6 Middlebury Panthers delivered the biggest result of the Division III field hockey weekend Sunday, handing top-ranked Christopher Newport its first loss of the season with a 1–0 overtime victory.
The upset capped a two-win road trip for Middlebury, who also beat No. 9 Bowdoin, 2–1, on Saturday. Against Christopher Newport, Addie Chandler scored a penalty stroke in overtime.
Middlebury’s sweep put the Panthers at the center of the national picture and positioned them for a jump in the next NFHCA poll.
Elsewhere, No. 2 Salisbury bounced back from its midweek loss to No. 11 Stevenson with a 1–0 overtime win at St. Mary’s (Md.), while No. 12 Wesleyan strengthened its résumé by beating No. 21 Bates, 3–1.

No. 6 Middlebury 1, No. 1 Christopher Newport 0 (OT) — Middlebury finished the sweep by ending CNU’s unbeaten start in the weekend’s headline upset.
No. 2 Salisbury 1, St. Mary’s (Md.) 0 (OT) — The Sea Gulls needed extra time to get back in the win column after their midweek setback.
No. 12 Wesleyan 3, No. 21 Bates 1 — Wesleyan added a ranked NESCAC win to a weekend marked by strong conference results.
