NCAA DII field hockey recap: upsets, standout performances and playoff positioning

Genna Bush, Ellie Myers, and Anne Gardner were influential in helping lift their teams to victory last week.

A handful of NCAA Division II field hockey results stood out over the past week, with several teams earning convincing wins.

Kutztown’s Marissa Rice and Ellie Myers powered a runaway victory, Shippensburg’s Anne Gardner delivered a two-goal road effort, and Bloomsburg continued its unbeaten start behind Genna Bush, Raegan Iasiello and another strong defensive showing.

From last week’s scoreboard:  

Kutztown 7, American International 0: Rice scored three times for her second hat trick of the season, while Myers added two goals as Kutztown improved to 9-0. The Golden Bears controlled the game statistically, putting 25 of 27 shots on goal and holding AIC without a shot or penalty corner. 

Shippensburg 4, Frostburg State 1: Gardner scored twice to lead the Raiders on the road, with Emily Bitters and Elaina Fragassi also finding the cage. Shippensburg finished with a 26-6 shot advantage and a 20-4 edge in shots on goal. 

Bloomsburg 2, Bentley 0: Bush scored her seventh goal of the season off an assist from Iasiello, and Taylor Fry added a late goal as Bloomsburg stayed unbeaten. Molly Bross and the Huskies’ defense posted a fourth straight shutout. 

Kutztown 6, Millersville 2: Earlier last week, Rice also scored twice in a 6-2 win over Millersville, including a penalty stroke. Erin Esterhuizen scored both of Millersville’s goals late, giving the Marauders a bright spot in the closing minutes.
