It is nearly halfway through the 2026 NCAA Division I regular college field hockey season and last week’s field hockey slate brought several notable updates.
No. 5 Iowa vs. Ohio State
No. 5 Iowa showed resilience after falling behind in the first half, overcoming a rare deficit to defeat Ohio State in non-conference play. Dionne van Aalsum helped spark the Hawkeyes’ comeback, while freshman goalkeeper Julia Claessens made key saves to protect the lead and secure a hard-fought win.
No. 11 Syracuse vs. No. 9 Virginia
The ACC No. 11 Syracuse produced one of the weekend’s most impressive results, shutting out No. 9 Virginia 3-0 on the road. The Orange made the most of their scoring chances and held firm defensively despite Virginia generating 14 shots, handing the Cavaliers a frustrating defeat.
No. 15 Yale vs. Cornell
Yale is no longer undefeated after Cornell edged the Bulldogs 3-2 on Saturday, snapping Yale’s five-game winning streak and dropping the Bulldogs to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in Ivy League play. Emma Ramsey scored twice for Yale after Cornell built a 2-0 lead, but Blake Wilks delivered the late deciding goal for the Big Red.
Providence vs. American
Providence College closed out a long road stretch with a 2-1 win over American, the Patriot League preseason favorite. Senior Carly van Benten delivered the game-winning goal, giving the Friars a quality road victory and a strong finish to their travel-heavy run.
North Carolina’s California Sweep
North Carolina enjoyed a productive West Coast trip, powered by the return of three key fifth-year players. The Tar Heels opened with a high-scoring rout of Stanford before following up with a win over No. 17 California, completing a strong California sweep.
