Palmyra 5, Northern 3: field hockey highlights
Northern’s MJ Simpson earned her 200th point Tuesday night in the Polar Bears contest against Palmyra.
“I mean, it was kind of cool that it was on an assist, because I feel like I've been playing field hockey for 12 years, and I've always just been the passer,” Simpson said after the game. “I love scoring goals, and I get goals, but it always feels better to set up the play.”
Simpson, a senior, assisted on the first goal of the game scored by Courtney Heltzel. And, then she assisted again in the third quarter.
Northern scored first, but Palmyra came back for the 5-3 win.
“And so, honestly, I feel like I'm enjoying it more that I got to watch my teammates finish it for me. And one of my favorite parts was that even though [Keairah Dykes] scored the goal that got me my 200th, she celebrated it, and the first thing she said was, ‘you got your 200th point.’
“It was just a great team moment, yeah.”
A red card was given in the final 14 seconds of the game to Northern. The Polar Bears goalie - Lauryn Hose - said the card is motivation for the team to do better this week.
