Providence College recognized on SportsCenter's Top 10: field hockey

Providence College beat Boston University 3-2 in a shootout after a 2-2 tie in regulation and overtime.

The Providence College women’s field hockey team started their 2025 NCAA Division I journey with an overtime shootout.

On opening day, Boston University and Providence were tied at 2-2 after regulation and a 10-minute overtime. The Friars went on to win 3-2 in shootouts.

Florencia Talarico, of Argentina, was early in the lineup. The Terrier’s goalie — Sophie Ortyl — came out of her cage to challenge Talarico, but the calm Friar sophomore did a one, two lift over the junior keep.

Talarico’s sizzle earned Providence a shoutout on ESPN’s ‘SportsCenter Top 10.’

Providence, Big East, plays Holy Cross at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 5, in Worcester, Massachusetts. And, Boston University, Patriot League, will host Vermont at 4 p.m. on Friday, September 5.
