Princeton moves up in DI women’s college field hockey poll after beating Northwestern: NFHCA
Princeton’s Beth Yeager used her lethal drag flick to snap Northwestern field hockey's unbeaten run in last weekend’s matchup between the two squads.
The Olympian effectively ended the Wildcats 11-game winning streak. And, the goal marked Yeager’s personal record of 50 career goals scored.
The Tigers bumped up to the No. 6 spot in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll. Northwestern stayed at No. 1.
The last time Northwestern lost was against Michigan last season. The only Division I college field hockey team that remains unbeaten on the season is Harvard.
The Ivy League is seeing the most representation on the list as compared to recent years from the Ivies with Harvard at No. 4, Princeton at No. 6, Yale at No. 16, and Brown at No. 20.
Wake Forest continued their impressive run, earning their 11th consecutive win, which is the program’s longest winning streak since 2006. The Demon Deacons also improved to a perfect 7-0 record at home, their best home start since 2005.
In the team’s 4-1 win over Delaware, junior Mia Schoenbeck added to her notable season, now responsible for 20 of the team’s 48 goals.
Miami University (Ohio) celebrated a major milestone with a 3-2 victory over Indiana, marking the program’s 500th all-time win. Malena Sabez scored the game winner.
Newly ranked UCal Berkeley entered the national spotlight at No. 18 after stunning Syracuse in a 1-0 shutout. Liz Klompmaker scored the lone goal, earning the Bears one of their biggest wins of the season.
At Maryland, the Hollamon sisters led the Terps to a 2-1 victory over Iowa, each recording a goal. Their key contributions earned conference honors, freshman Jordyn Hollamon was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, while junior Josie Hollamon was recognized as Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.
A pair of Duke freshmen sparked the Blue Devils’ comeback in a 2-1 win over Louisville. Shae Wozniak tied the match in the third quarter before Sofia Fidalgo Schioppa scored the winning goal in the fourth, clinching the win.
In a historic win, Yale defeated UConn for the first time in program history, defeating the Huskies 1-0 in a shootout.
To finish a memorable week, Erin Matson celebrated her 50th career win as the head coach for UNC field hockey, adding yet another milestone to her already notable career.
According to the NFHCA, the poll is voted on by designated NFHCA member coaches from each conference and has no bearing on selection to the NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship.
