Nearly 100 athletes were named Thursday that are under consideration for international competitions slated to take place in April, according to USA Field Hockey.
After a three-day training camp over the weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina, the Junior U.S. Women’s National Team coaches named the U-16 and U-18 selectees.
Head Coach Tamara Durante described the athletes as “consistent” and “competitive.”
“Being named to the U-16 USWNT is a big step, but the work continues,” Durante said. “Our focus now is on building cohesion, raising our standards, and getting ready to compete in the Netherlands.”
All U-16 and U-18 USWNT athletes are required to attend a training camp at UNC-Charlotte from Feb. 13-15, which serves as the selection period for April travel rosters. Selected athletes are then required to attend a preparatory camp from March 20–22.
The U-16 Red travel roster will compete in a 4 Nations Tournament against Belgium, England, and the Netherlands in Valkenswaard, Netherlands, from March 30 to April 7, according to USA Field Hockey.
The U-16 Blue and U-18 White travel rosters will tour Tonbridge, England, from March 30 to April 7, to compete in 6 Nations Tournaments.
Stacey Bean will lead the U-16 Blue squad against U-16 and U-18 national teams from Belgium, England, France, Netherlands, and Scotland.
Jamie Montgomery will lead the U-18 White team as head coach against U-18 national teams from Belgium, England, Netherlands, Scotland, and Wales.
Each team will play four games.
"I am proud of how players challenged themselves and each other during this second stage of selection,” Montgomery said in a statement. “They are growing, learning, and becoming competitors in their own right and I am excited to see where the hard work they are putting in now will take this group."
