USWNT beat Ireland 3-1; will play No. 7 England for 9th place in the 2026 FIH World Cup

Three different goal scorers powered USA Field Hockey to its second win of the FIH World Cup and first victory of Stage Two, as the No. 10 United Eagles defeated No. 12 Ireland, 3-1, on Monday at Belfius Hockey Arena in Wavre, Belgium.
The result added three points to the United States’ total and moved the team into first place in Pool H, securing a spot in the ninth- through 10th-place classification game.
That placement match -- against No. 7 England -- will be played Thursday, Aug. 27, at 8 a.m. EST and streamed live on Watch.Hockey.
Ireland struck first, but Lucy Adams brought the United States level in the second quarter, delivering the equalizer the team needed to settle into the match.
From there, the United Eagles kept building. Mia Schoenbeck gave the U.S. the lead on a set piece, scoring her second goal of the tournament with a drag finish.
Reese D’Ariano then helped create the final breakthrough, entering the circle, spinning away from pressure and slipping a pass near the stroke mark, where Abby Tamer finished on her backhand to make it 3-1.
Ireland pulled its goalkeeper in the final minutes to add an 11th field player, but the United States protected the lead and closed out the win.
