Wake Forest field hockey ranks in the top 20 in week 2 poll: NFHCA
Wake Forest is back on the polls after falling during the National Field Hockey Coaches Association week one rankings.
The Demon Deacons are in the No. 20 spot, where they ranked in the preseason polls.
Head Coach Jen Averill earned her 450th career win after 33 years of coaching Wake Forest. She notched the milestone after a 9-1 victory over UMass Lowell.
Yale is welcomed to the poll at No. 18, where they have not seen the leaderboard yet this season. The Bulldogs start the season with a 4-0 overall record, which is the first time since 1995.
The power three remain, Northwestern at No. 1, North Carolina at No. 2 and Virginia at No. 3.
Harvard improves three spots, now at No. 5, where they previously ranked No. 8.
Head Coach Tjerk van Herwaarden became the second coach in program history to reach 150 career wins. After 13 years of coaching, he secured the milestone in a 2-1 win versus Ohio State University, whom at the time was ranked No. 12.
Maryland remains as a top 10 team, securing the No. 10 spot.
Ella Gaitan scored the only goal of the game off a penalty corner in the final minute versus Saint Joseph’s, who at the time ranked No. 13.
Iowa bumps up four ranks, now No. 11 instead of No. 15.
Dionne van Aalsum was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week. Van Aalsum has 14 goals for the season so far, ranking first in the nation for goals per game.
