The Oley Valley and Boiling Springs field hockey freshmen from four years ago will have a reunion of sorts on Saturday.

Flash forward to 2025, and the Berks County field hockey program will once again meet the Cumberland County field hockey program in the 2025 District 3 Class 1A championship game.

Oley, this season, has the higher seed at No. 3. And, Boiling Springs is No. 4.

Those freshmen are now seniors. They have gained new experiences, learned new lessons, had their limits tested, and are now a new version of their younger self.

Both teams stand the chance of taking home the gold and title.

Oley and Boiling Springs saw each other in the finale in 2022 (when Boiling Springs was the No. 1 seed), but at Landis Field. Boiling Springs won their first District 3 Class 1A title.

Oley, however, had taken home the gold and trophy, winning the Class 1A title in 2016, 2017, and 2021.

They most recently won gold in 2023 after losing to the Bubblers in 2022.

Oley has won 12 District 3 championships, including when they were classified in 2A. Boiling Springs has its lone gold, but has become a team to beat in the postseason, earning a collection of various hardware.

No. 3 Oley Valley

The Lynxes are often coached to read and anticipate passes. They step quickly to the ball and immediately look for the forward pass. They will use a flat pass when they are under pressure.

They have historically been known to execute defensive penalty corners that transition up field immediately.

They have allowed 10 goals scored against them all season. Each of their 2025 District 3 Class 1A tournament games have been shutout.

They scored 58 goals during the regular season. In the tournament, they scored eight goals.

Their four losses (Crestwood, Methacton, Northwest Lehigh, and Warwick) were either out-of-district or out-of-conference and against programs in higher classifications.

Warwick is playing in the 2025 District 3 Class 2A championship.

Not only does this team go all in, but they also know how to come from behind to win – something they share with the Bubblers.

No. 4 Boiling Springs

The Bubblers have speed and will disrupt an aerial game. With experience on each line, they seemingly attempt a Dutch-style game having a cherry picker ready up the field for a long ball from the back.

They play a racetrack style game, trying to force the game to be played on their right side. When they utilize the left, they generally hug the seams before attempting a circle entry.

On defensive penalty corners, they have a fast flyer that often gets to the ball before the receiver can set up her shot.

Throughout the regular season, Boiling Springs scored 88 goals, and in the 2025 District 3 Class 1A tournament, the Bubblers scored 12. They’ve allowed 17 goals scored against, including four in the postseason.

The Bubblers are calling the 2025 season their “comeback” season. And, recently advanced to the championship game after defeating the No. 1 seed in the District 3 Class 1A tournament 3-2 in shootouts after trailing 2-0 in the fourth quarter.

They lost to Penn Manor, which is competing in the 2025 District 3 Class 3A championship, and two Class 2A programs, Northern York, and Palmyra. Palmyra is playing in the District 3 Class 2A championship.
